Pewter Viking Longboat

$25.99

Pewter salt cellar or dip in the shape of a double-headed Viking dragon longboat, labeled “Norge.”

A wonderful old-world-style piece of tableware or décor, this convenient little pewter boat is in the shape of one of the iconic longboats that made the Vikings such a remarkably efficient force in their heyday of warfare and exploration.

A detailed dragon's head is at both ends – Viking boats were designed to be able to reverse without turning around – and the sides are smooth but for a small raised detailing on the outside just below the rim. The color of the dish is the lovely, mellow silver of real pewter.

The small boat is 2 3/4” long and 3/4” high. The body of it is 1 1/2” wide, tapering attractively toward the ends. The bottom is stamped “Handstřpt TPB Tinn.” This company made several different pewter Viking ship salt cellars with various parts of the mold modified. Use it for salt as intended, or for a tiny portion of fragrance oil – it's historically minded and in lovely condition.
